Funkallisto is a Rome-based sextet formed in February 2004. The six musicians met in the heart of the city, Trastevere, giving life to a unique project delivering a high-energy repertoire of Funk, Afrobeat and Latin-Jazz.
Over the last two years, Funkallisto has created a considerable following thanks to perennial activity in Rome and inspired performances throughout Europe selling 5000 self-produced and self-distributed cd's.
Ponte sisto(an historical bridge in the centre of Rome) has been transformed into a legendary location for the group leading to tours to Barcelona, Berlin, Prague, Montpellier and Nice and participation in festivals such as; Roman Holiday(Shanghai), Umbria jazz(Perugia), Emergency World AIDS Day(Rome), Musica sulle bocche and Time jazz Berchidda(Sardinia).
In 2005, two documentaries were filmed capturing the activity of the band on the location in which their latest album, ‘Live A Ponte Sisto’ was recorded, currently being promoted at Radio Citta Futura and Radio Lifegate with interviews and a live performance on air. The album will be officially released and distributed in January by Goodfellas(Italy).
Other endeavours include recording the sound track for a 10-part documentary for RAI 3, recording for monicelli's latest film, live concerts at Starwood hotels(Sardinia), numerous weddings, private parties and collaborations with DJs and musicians.
Currently Funkallisto are working with the singer and multi-instrumentilist Jimmy Gimelli from Los Angeles and are in the process of recording material for their next album.
